What type of insurance does Petplan offer?
Petplan is one of the UK’s biggest pet insurers and you can get a quote for cover on its website. Along with policies you may expect for dogs, cats and rabbits it also offers cover for puppies, horses and breeders.
Some of its products are offered under slightly different brands, for example, Petplan Equine covers horses, ponies and riders. Its breeder insurance scheme enables breeders to give the new owners of dogs they sell four weeks of free Petplan cover, which includes up to £4,000 vet fee cover.
It also acts as an introducer for ExoticDirect, which is owned by Bought By Many and covers all kinds of exotic animals.
Petplan offers a choice between three policies for dogs, cats and puppies – 12 Months Essential, Covered For Life Classic and Covered For Life Ultimate.
They all offer cover for vet fees and loss or theft. The 12 Months policy will only cover an illness for up to 12 months whereas the Covered For Life options are what many insurers refer to as lifetime policies, which means they can cover an illness through the life of a pet.
Covered For Life Ultimate is Petplan’s most comprehensive policy and includes up to £12,000 of vet fee cover, £3m for third-party liability and £2,000 of cover for death is included as standard.

How much does from Petplan pet insurance cost?

We could not find any voucher codes for Petplan although it does offer a 10% discount to new customers buying online and there is a multi-pet discount of £12 a year per pet.

Petplan uses Feefo to collect reviews from customers. On its site, it says it scores 4.3 out of 5 from over 3,300 reviews in the past year. However, many of these may be reviews from customers who have just bought a policy and not had a reason to claim yet.
On Trustpilot it scores 5.9 out of 10 from over 500 customer reviews.
What do expert reviews say?
Independent financial review site Defaqto rates Petplan’s Classic and Ultimate policies as 5 Star and its Essential policy as 3 Star.
