“Licensed insurance agent”

I have been working at Allstate full-time (More than 5 years)

They paid got licensing and are very supportive of families. They also have great benefits as well as bonuses and many incentive programs

Sometimes working so closely with people to do with insurance and finances, it can be very upsetting for some and you end up dealing with high emotions sometimes.

Advice to Management

Make average pay increases for all not just the ones making minimum wage.

“Can be great or absolutely horrible”

I have been working at Allstate full-time

Local branches with head office backing.
Marketing dollars available for agents to spend.
Starting “salary” is good.
Product training is great.

Corporate expects you to spend money out of pocket for marketing.
Your agency manager can make or break the position.
LOTS OF TURNOVER.
High pressure to perform.
Starting Salary is advance on commission.
Turn away more clients than you can insure.
You do not leave training feeling prepared to do the job at all.
If you do not have a large network for immediate business, reconsider this position, most of my colleagues have worked in car sales, real estate or have deep connections within the community, building a COI network takes time, but management expects immediate results.

Advice to Management

Corporate message is great and rebranding is effective in recruiting top tier talent to local branches.
Problems start with local managers not implementing head office’s strategy, expecting you to perform from day one.

“Correct classifications agent”

I have been working at Allstate full-time (More than a year)

great step to get your foot in the door for aspiring students that want a career in the insurance industry.

Management favoritism. You cant get a promotion unless you are closest with the manager despite the endless amount of work put it. Promotions are only given to the agents who choose the managements side of any work related disputes and childish politics.

Advice to Management

be fair and reward hard working individuals. stop being judgmental.

“Allstate Canada – High pressure to perform.”

I have been working at Allstate full-time (More than 5 years)

-Great coworkers
-When you have a good month you are rewarded very well
-Benefits are good but expensive
-You can make 6 figures here but expect to put in serious hours and occasionally compromise your morals to hit plan. Keep in mind it is not everyone that makes 6 figures, the average is significantly less

-Expect to work overtime and lots of late nights if you hope to be successful
-Poor work life balance because of the overtime mentioned above
-Lack of support from direct managers and upper management. My direct manager often worked less than 20 hours a week leading to a very frustrating work environment
-CCA’s and head office staff act as a goalie when you are trying to activate a policy
-If you want to be successful expect to compromise your morals occasionally. I have witnessed multiple policies being inflated to allow BDA’s to meet plan because goals are based in premium dollars.
-Very much a “What have you done for me today attitude”, understandable if you consider that you can make 6 figures but leads to a cut throat office and a high pressure environment
-Allstate has a low risk tolerance and is only interested in taking on “Ideal Clients” leaving BDA’s with no choice but to mislead potential insurers by telling them they have to pay in full for the year to try and discourage them from coming on board. If we do write the policy we run the risk of doing poorly on our review and only getting half our quarterly bonus.
-Inferior product offering. Only having $5000 in sewer back up is is unacceptable and forces BDA’s to steam roll clients into signing a policy most people in their right mind would never consider accepting

Advice to Management

-Consider changing your tier mix requirements
-Edevour to create an environment which allows all levels to work together to bring clients on board when it makes good business sense
-Change the sewer back up policies on your high risk territories.
